Kali Linux based on Debian Linux distribution is used for Advance Penetration Testing, Reverse Engineering and other Security purposes. It has Monolithic kernel (connect hardware with software) which is a modified kernel. The kernel has the latest injection patches included. Developed by Offensive Security in March 2013.

It is also used to attack your own network and to attack someone else's network with permission (white hat hacking) and without permission (black hat hacking) which is illegal and you will be behind the bars if you do this.

Open-source kali Linux contains more than 600 tools for various purposes like information security tasks, checking website weaknesses, computer forensics and reverse engineering penetration testing, etc. Due to its flexibility and development, you can use a large number of devices as well as smartphones with Kali Linux.

Kali Linux is free of cost and always will be. You will never pay for Kali Linux. Kali adheres to the File System Hierarchy Standard. This makes the Linux users locate the binaries, support files, libraries more easily. A minimum of 20 gigabytes disk space for the Kali Linux installation.
RAM for i386 and amd64 architecture, a minimum of 1 gigabyte recommended 2GB or more.
CD-DVD Drive/USB boot support/VirtualBox

If you are a beginner then I will personally suggest you start with a Ubuntu or Mint! Kali is not ideal for you as a beginner!!
